Very warm and dry
Date: December 23, 2009
"I've owned about a dozen Carhartt arctic-lined duck coats, which usually last me 2-3 years of brutal outdoor abuse. This coat has the added advantage of being completely waterproof, which is a big plus for me; I find the yellow plastic raingear which my company provides to be uncomfortable. Now I can stay warm and dry without the added layer of latex. The coat is very warm, despite being relatively lightweight compared to the traditional arctic-lined duck. I would rate it even slightly warmer, because it stops wind much better than the cotton shelled duck coats. I live in the northeastern U.S., and we just received 20 inches of snow here. I was out shoveling and snow-blowing for 12 hours over the course of 2 days, and the coat kept me very warm with temps in the low 20's. In addition to the coat, I wore a thermal undershirt and 1 cotton sweatshirt. I was sweating profusely, but as advertised, the coat breathes very well. Below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, I think I will need an additional layer, most likely fleece will do. The collar snaps closed to keep the wind out, completely negating the need for a fleece-neck or scarf-type wear. Further, the hood has (three very strong) velcro straps that smartly close right over the collar, enhancing the effect. It is very comfortable once you get used to its lightness, and it looks very good. When you work with your hands as I do, the cuffs on coats tend to wear very quickly. This coat has a certain slipperiness to its outer shell, which seems to save on cuff wear so far. It gets dirty very quickly, but cleans up very easily with a sponge and soapy water. I work so often that I no longer have "work clothes" and "dress clothes", and this coat looks pretty presentable for a working guy to wear pretty much anywhere. The concerns I have: The outer shell is tough, but the pocket liners are too thin and are definitely going to bust open with the kind of use I put these coats through. Stuffing a tool, or even car/truck keys, into the pockets gives me the dubious feeling that they will tear at any minute and that eventually I will be forced to retrieve my stuff from some hidden corner of the coat, beyond the pocket lining. There is nowhere to safely stuff a pen or pencil because of the thin pocket situation. I am always very carefully placing my pen on the inside left-breast pocket, which is a big, sloppy pocket which just sort of hangs there without any stiff support. If the jacket were heavier and stiffer, it would be easier to put things in and out of the pockets; it is a much softer coat than the Carhartts I am used to. The coat's inner liner is light and surprisingly warm, but again, it is pretty thin, and I am gingerly putting it on each time, to preserve it as long as possible. Overall, I am liking it more and more, and I am glad I took the gamble and crossed over from the arctic-lined duck coats to this one. The advantages over the traditional arctic duck outweigh my concerns, and again, I really like this coat. It is a very good value, and I wouldn't mind replacing it every other year or every second year, which is all that I can expect of a work coat."

From Iraq to Germany
Date: October 12, 2009
"I originally purchased this jacket to replace one that I lost. Carhartt, a name I was familiar with, because my brother had purchased the products for years as a painter. Since I'm from the Pacific Northwest I wanted a jacket that could withstand the occasional trips home and any of the various environments that I might find myself. My first stop, winter time in Iraq. Despite what you may have heard, it gets rather cold certain times of the year. It keeps you comfortable, and suprisingly kept the sand out. The sealed, zippered pockets kept the important things dry and clean. Enter Germany, mountains, rain, biting wind, and most of all snow. Four distinct seasons, three different times of the year when I need my Carhartt jacket. Not a single flake of snow, a drop of rain or blown gust of wind could get through this jacket. The thing that most impressed me, however, was I didn't overheat. I stayed toasty. On my off time if I could be a walking Carhartt advertisement, I would. Carhartt stuff works. Worldwide...period."

THIS IS WORTH THE MONEY
Date: May 10, 2009
"I clean outdoors for a living on ladders, roofs and cement all day. I normaly wear PVC style rain gear jackets, DH or Columbia. At the end of the day was always wet from my own sweat, and cold and tired. I bought the Carhart Breathable set one year ago and love it. I holds up alot better then PVC, dose not rip, or come apart at the seams, and best of all I stay truly warm and dry all day, not even a little patch of wet on my shirts. It has water proof zipers on the pockets and an Inside pocket that keeps my MP3 player dry. All in all this is the best work clothes I've ever bought and pays for itself in not needing to be replaced through out the year, and becuse I stay comforable and am not dehydrating my self by sweating all day. I find I stay on site longer and have more energy. The only improvment would be to add arm pit zippers to let out extra heat on wet spring days."

Well Made, Excellent Value
Date: March 25, 2009
"This coat is very well made. It is windproof and waterproof, so it will keep you warm on those cool windy days too. The extra length is nice for leg protection although I will also purchase the pants since I like the coat so well. A High quality product for a very reasonable price."

Just what he wanted

"I bought this coat for my dad for Christmas to replace the worn out coat he uses to work outside. He loved it. Its durable enough to stand up to heavy use, and the fact that its wind proof and water proof make it the perfect jacket for outside work."

Great Jacket
Date: January 16, 2009
"I really loved this jacket and the first day I wore it to work everybody wanted to know where I got it from. I have wore it several times in the rain and it does a very good job I never got wet once. Like a earlier review the hood is way to big. When you put it on it is so big that it comes down over my face and can not see what I am doing. I did think it was going to be alittle warmer but over all it does keep the wind out. Overall this jacket is great."

Well Worth It
Date: January 16, 2009
"I bought this coat for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! He works outside and has worn it to work pretty much everyday since he got it. All the guys at work want one too now. It's very durable, not too bulky and waterproof just like it says. We would definitely recommend this coat to all those that work outside often."

Good coat, a few minor flaws
Date: January 13, 2009
"Overall I like this coat, but there are some flaws, one that seems consistent with Carhartt. Pros: Good warmth, solid construction, waterproof, lots of pockets. Cons: * Outer material hard and noisy as it rubs together. * Hand cuffs don't put down enough velcro for attaching. I can't cinch up arms as tight as I'd like for my wrists. * Hood is waaaaaay to big. I'm going to have to get it altered. It comes up about 6" over my head and out about 4-6" too far on top so I can't realistically use the hood and see as well. Overall a great coat with a few minor flaws. The flaws are all minor and/or correctable without too much trouble. I would really like to see more color options too. I added some iron-on reflective material to mine, but I'd really like to see brighter colors that are more visible in low light."

Great Wet Weather Jacket

"Received this jacket on a Friday and Noah's flood let loose the next day. The coat kept me dry and it is absolutely breathable, as I stayed dry inside also. Fits great and looks great. I recommend it."

Very Satisfied
Date: October 15, 2008
"I bought this jacket two years ago and I have loved it ever since. The quality is outstanding! It keeps me warm and dry in the worst of conditions. I am an avid ice fisherman and I always wear this when I go. The best thing is that even when its warm out the jacket doesn't get me too hot becuase of its breathability. The only thing I would change is make the back of the jacket a little longer to cover my back side. Other than that it's a perfect jacket. My next purchase will be the 3 in 1."
